Michelle Tiu Lim-Cha, Mega Prime Foods Inc. CEO, Rewriting Women Empowerment in the Workplace
Everyone’s definition of leadership varies. What makes it compelling is when it’s done by a woman. There are numerous renowned female leaders in the Philippines, and their stories tell diverse beginnings, setbacks, and successes. Michelle Tiu Lim-Chan, CEO of Mega Prime Foods Incorporated, is rewriting one captivating story about women empowerment in the workplace.
This International Women’s Month, we commemorate the accomplishments of women in the community who improve the lives of many people because of their brilliant ideas for innovations.
Michelle Tiu Lim-Chan, who was the only girl among the five children of William and Marylou Tiu Lim, showcased an early drive to lead. Michelle adapted quickly after her father exposed them to their nature of business. It motivated her to become the compassionate and effective leader that she is today.
Like other female leaders, she had to begin from the ground up. She took up management courses with the goal of applying them to the food production business. She grew up knowing that being a great leader requires continuous learning.
She went on to become one of the leaders who pioneered Mega Global and helped launch Mega Sardines, the Philippines’ number one sardine, and the parent company of Mega Prime Foods Inc. This was her starting point for honing her leadership skills, and it was also where she mastered best practices and pertinent knowledge from her co-leaders.
Michelle Tiu Lim-Chan began her career handling the sales, marketing, and distribution activities of Mega. Throughout her journey, she has shown dedication and hard work. Her initiatives revolve around the core purpose of the company, to improve lives by providing quality and value-for-money food to Filipino families. Years later, she was elevated to Vice President of Finance and Support Operations and subsequently, she was designated to be the company’s, Chief Operating Officer. (COO).
Michelle also proved that every single day, women have the chance to step up and utilize their skills to empower those around them. She believed in the power of education, empowerment, and the value of “Malasakit”. She believes in her people and encourages them to pursue their dreams.
For Michelle, when “Malasakit” is emphasized as a key value in the workplace, it fosters an environment in which everyone works with compassion. Another motivation for employees to act out of goodwill.
As a leader, she firmly believes in the importance of work-life balance, which she always encourages her employees to attain. For many reasons, but most importantly to spend time with family and friends, as Michelle is also a passionate mother.
Mega’s success can be attributed to Michelle’s leadership style, which values women and their efforts. Giving women a place where they can develop their abilities and apply their knowledge.
It’s amazing how women can play different roles while leaving footprints of inspiration at the same time. Nurturing those in their surroundings. While Women’s progress has been extremely powerful and spectacular over the years, it allows more women to feel proud of themselves for what they can do and who they can be in and out of the workplace.
This International Women’s Month, let’s celebrate all women, past and present, leaders, and mothers alike. This is a long-month celebration of the power that women hold, and having power is skewed toward greater responsibilities in society.
Consider March to be a passage to continue what women have started in the past so that there will be more women like Michelle Tiu Lim-Chan, who is a catalyst for innovative thinking, creativity, and a foundation for nation-building.
